Tacloban City, Leyte -- The office of the governor of this province has expressed support for the Leyte 2nd Engineering District’s intent to construct a new road from Jaro town, to Ormoc city.

Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla told reporters here that  opening of the new road from Jaro to Ormoc City will help hasten economic development in the upland villages of the two local government units.

Petilla also said that the infrastructure project will greatly help perk up economic activities in the area as it will also serve as a farm-to-market road easing efforts of farmers to gain from their farm products.

The Leyte governor said the road will also help government agencies in addressing continuing problems with insurgency in the area and in checking the illegal cutting of trees in the forests bordering the town of Jaro and Ormoc City.

He said that the road is also expected to boost tourism in Lake Danao, one of the leading tourist destinations in the province.

In a separate interview, Engineer Carlos Veloso, head of the Leyte 2nd Engineering District said that the road  will cut travel time by about an hour as it will lessen road distance by 65 kilometers from Tacloban to Ormoc city via the town of Jaro which is 34 kilometers southwest from this city.
