Dellosa replaces Lim at Customs

President Benigno Aquino 3rd has appointed former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Jessie Dellosa as one of the deputy commissioners of the Bureau of Customs (BOC), replacing retired general Danilo Lim, a Palace official said on Saturday.

Deputy Presidential Spokesman Abigail Valte made the announcement two months after President Benigno Aquino 3rd lambasted Customs officials for failing to curb the smuggling of illegal arms and drugs.

"Jessie Dellosa was appointed Deputy Commissioner for the Intelligence Group, and the appointment was signed by the President yesterday," Valte told Radyo ng Bayan on Saturday.

Dellosa, who was Armed Forces chief from December 2011 to January 2013, was also the commanding officer of the Presidential Security Group’s Special Reaction Unit during President Corazon Aquino’s term.

Lim resigned on July 22 just hours after Aquino slammed Customs officials for their incompetence in his fourth State of the Nation Address.  Deputy Commissioner for Administration Juan Lorenzo Tañada also resigned after the public scolding.

Lim, a West Point graduate, who led the 1989 coup against then President Cory Aquino, claimed that many powerful government officials are meddling at the bureau.  The President had said Lim will be given a new position in government.

Other officials were likewise appointed to Customs - Primo Aguas as deputy commissioner for Management Information Systems and Technology Group, and Agaton Teodoro Uvero as deputy commissioner for Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group, replacing Maria Caridad Manarang and Prudencio Reyes, respectively.

Budget Director Myrna Chua was named deputy commissioner for Internal Administration Group, while Finance Department Assistant Secretary Ma. Edita Tan was designated as deputy commissioner for the Revenue Collection Monitoring Group.
