All set for 67th anniversary of historic Leyte Gulf Landings

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Oct. 18(PIA) -- Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla informed that all is set for the 67th Anniversary of the historic Leyte Gulf Landings.

The Leyte Landing marker at the MacArthur Park in Palo, LeyteGovernor Petilla said will be the venue of the activities sponsored by various groups from the government and private sector have already been planned and are just awaiting implementation.

No less than His Excellency President Benigno S. Aquino III has been invited to keynote the Commemorative Rites, Governor Petilla informed.

This year, the Ambassador of the United States of America to the Philippines His Excellency Harry Thomas; Ambassador of Canada, His Excellency Robert Desjardins, the Ambassador of Japan, His Excellency Toshinao Urabe; and the representative of Australia have already confirmed their attendance to the Commemorative Program, the Leyte Gulf Landings Committee secretariat informed.

 A Commemorative Luncheon will be tendered by the Provincial Government of Leyte to the very special guests, at the historic CAP Building, where the late General MacActhur stayed when he was in Tacloban.

A commemorative luncheon for the World War II veterans will be tendered at the DPWH Convention Hall at the Government Center, Palo, Leyte.

The Commemorative civic military parade will be conducted at 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon in the main streets of Tacloban City. The Assembly area is in front of the Capitol.

The civic military parade will be highlighted by the three theme floats of the Province of Leyte, the City Government of Tacloban and the Region Eight Administrators League.

Special activities such as the Agri-Aqua, Trade and S&T Fair, Night Market, Subiran Regatta, Consumer Fair and Pre-Christmas Fair, Leyte Gulf Invitational Golf tournament, medical and dental missions for the veterans, among others, will also add color to this year’s celebration with the theme “Reliving the Events of the Leyte Gulf Landings as a Lesson for Peace.” (PIA 8)
